Ha Long Bay biodiversity preservation for sustainable tourism development

Ha Long Bay is bestowed by the nature with a museum of biodiversity and typical ecosystems of tropical sea. These factors have made outstanding values in terms of both natural landscape and geomorphology for Ha Long Bay – the world natural heritage site which have been twice recognized by UNESCO. Preserving and promoting biodiversity is regarded as the most effective way to protect the heritage and ensure sustainable tourism development.

For years, Ha Long Bay Management Board’s staffs haved supervised the daily activities of yellow monkey once a month. They have developed into more than 100 from 30 in 2010.

In order to protect precious genes, Ha Long Bay Management Board has established Soi Sim fauna and flora preservation area, planted mangrove forest, and banned all fishing and aquaculture farming in the core zone of the heritage. Ha Long Bay’s environmental protection a is also enhance by the Board by implementing the campaign “saying no to plastic waste” since September 2019, which receives good response from businesses operating on the bay.
