Binh Lieu District is not only rich in history and culture but also bestowed with charming landscape and cool climate which are potential to develop different kinds of tourism, including eco-tourism exploring Cao Ly Mountain.
Cao Ly Mountain stretches more than 40km2. Some area on the mountain area natural boundaries between Binh Lieu District with Hai Ha District and Dam Ha District, and even among communes of Dong Van, Huc Dong, Hoanh Mo, Dong Tam, Luc Hon in the locality.
Cao Ly Mountain has 8 peaks at more than 1,000m above sea level, including Cao Xiem Peak which is 1,429 m high. Average temperature on Cao Ly Mountain is 4 degree C lower than that in Binh Lieu Town and 6 degree C lower than in Ha Long City. At some areas on the mountain, cloud cover entire sky one third of the year, which is a perfect condition for “cloud hunting”.
In order to promote tourism potential, Binh Lieu District has invested in and put into use inter-communal road connecting Huc Dong Commune and Dong Van Commune since 2017. Among 300,000 visitor arrivals to the district in the period of 2015-2020, one third of them travel on Huc Dong-Dong Van inter-communal road to enjoy fresh air and beautiful natural landscape.
Thanks to favorable weather condition, Cao Ly Mountain has a great potential to cultivate plants that are often seen in cold areas. Binh Lieu Flowers Cooperative is carrying out a flower cultivation project in Cao Son Hamlet, Hoanh Mo Commune, halfway up to the Cao Ly Mountain. Many flowers cultivated here are seen only in Sapa or Da Lat.
During this time, purple color of melastoma attracts visitors the most. Besides, visitors can also pick ad enjoy ripen myrtle while watching cows grazing or admiring golden fields curving under the foot of the mountain.
Tourists also can camp and have an out-door BBQ party at the foot of Cao Ly Mountain. When the sun rises, it only takes you about 40 minutes from the camping place to Cao Ly Peak. During the upward trip to the peak, you may face cold cloud. And when you are at the peak, all fatigue will disappear and be replaced by the joy of immersing yourself in morning sunlight and watching charming villages hidden in anise and cinnamon forest.
Binh Lieu District is strengthening the development of community-based tourism in association with new rural area construction and establishing cultural and festive site as well as diversifying, completing and developing adventure tourism, eco-tourism, high-end tourism… contributing to inscribe Binh Lieu on Quang Ninh’s tourism map and beyond.
