In the past, local residents called it Cao Lo or Animal Island as they might originate from its bio-diversity. The island now is also a wild animal rescue station.
It is about 15km from the mainland, Ba Mun covers an area of 1,800 hectares. It is 20 kilometers long, has exiguous width and enlarges to East-West direction. Not only owning diverse eco-system with numerous species, Ba Mun, a schist island with high mountains and hills, forming a “great wall” to protect Van Don District from storms as well.
The impression at the first step on the island is the calmness and tranquility, the fresh cool air of the pristine forest. The further we went, the more awesome things we met. We saw precious iron wood, lauan meranti, apitong, old giant trees with so large trunks that the arm spans of three or four people cannot embrace them. With distinctive geographical conditions and outstanding values, Ba Mun is undoubtedly the largest sanctuary in the Northeastern region of Vietnam and a priceless pearl in Bai Tu Long.
