Vast space, mountains rising from the water, the local naive people make many visitors eager to get to know.
The 30 km tourist boat trips take visitors through the coastline from Ha Long tourist wharf to Cua Van - emerging as an attractive destination for domestic and foreign tourists. Cua Van fishing village is derived from two ancient fishing villages of Giang Vong and Truc Vong. Along with various islands, It became a part of the beauty of Halong Bay. Cua Van now belonging to Hung Thang ward- Ha Long city, is home of 180 households, with about 800 inhabitants, mostly living on fishing.
In fact, Cua Van fishing village, unlike others, a unique fishing village, is surrounded with so special houses with bars, columns, wood and pieces of foams floating on the sea. There are home based on the cliff, there is one rising on the sea and it is also a boat, the means to earn living ...
For ages, It has existed in our heritage of Ha Long Bay, a fishing village surrounded with vast natural landscape, various rocks, sea water and the blue sky. Their simlpe houses amazingly can stand still against storms, it contains primitive culture of entire fishing communities. They naturally live simplely, but so hospitably. The old-aged villagers say that the fishing community has been here long time ago. The children are born on boats, Small children can swim, sail before they know how to read and write. Fishing and Song fish raising are their own way to earn living.
With the beloved boats, when the sea's quiet, calm, the people go fishing far away from shelters. When storms come, they come back to wait for good weather. But their life is full of hardships and dangers. However, in the depth of the souls, no one wants to leave the village. To come to Cua Van, you can not fail to visit the floating cultural center. It was completed and operated on 8 May 2007 with an area of over 330m2, funded by the Government of Norway.
This is a special project because this is a floating ecological community cultural centre first built on the sea in Vietnam in order to preserve and promote the cultural values of Cua Van fishing village.
The Center is now exhibiting artifacts, photographs long collected by the staff of Ha long Bay Management Department in Cua Van fishing village with six themes: nature and human; ways of living; material life, aquatic life; everlasting psychic and spiritual life. During the past time, the Center has successfully held a number of topical exhibitions, attracting many domestic and foreign tourists’ attendence.
Mr. Nguyen Ba Can - Director of the Centre said: "Through these exhibitions, we would recommend the most lively every day life images and simple but unique fishing tools of Cua Van fishing village to visitors, those who love Ha long Bay”. The guides of the Center are the children born in Cua Van fishing village. They are members of the first group of young boys and girls graduated from professional tourism training courses to introduce about the life, the history and the culture.
To travel to Cua Van is to enjoy going sightseeing, “joking” with waves, watching wild birds, sea fish and participate in local human activities. On the occasion of festivals or wedding parties, visitors also can hear fishermen singing traditional Gheo, Cheo Duong songs (a kind of singing with many typical folk songs found only in Ha Long).
There is a form of tourism that many tourists enjoy when visiting the village of Cua Van. It is interesting night squid fishing. You should take the squid fishing boat offshore to feel yourselves all of the salty sea and paradiselike life here. After fishing squids, visitors can stay overnight with a local family enjoying special sea foods.
