Communication campaign launched to raise public awareness of breast cancer
The Supportive Fund for Cancer Patients, or Bright Future Fund under the Ministry of Health, has launched a communication campaign themed ‘Joining Hands for the Women I Love’, aiming to raise public awareness about breast cancer.
The campaign was held in response to Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the 93rd anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Women's Union (1930- 2023).
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Xuyen, President of the Bright Future Fund emphasised, that early breast cancer screening and detection is vital for women.
Therefore, this campaign aims to increase Vietnamese women’s knowledge and awareness of this fatal disease.
She also called on women to take better care of their health, especially by proactively implementing regular breast cancer screenings.
Speaking at the launch ceremony held in Hanoi on October 19, Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan said, that breast cancer is the most common cancer in women.
She reported that each year Vietnam records more than 21,500 new cases of breast cancer, accounting for 25.8% of all types of cancer in women.
Therefore, early detection screening is especially important, as the survival rate is more than 90% for people whose cancer is detected at an early stage.
She called on businesses and organisations to include cancer screenings in general and breast cancer in particular, in their regular health check-up programmes for their female workers and staff, particularly those aged 40 and above.
