A Quang Ninh student wins Bronze Medal at the 37th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI)
Ninh Quang Thang, a student at Ha Long High School for the Gifted, proudly brought home a prestigious Bronze Medal from the 37th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), a remarkable achievement for himself, his family, his school, and the education sector of Quang Ninh province.
On the afternoon of August 6, after nearly 30 hours and three connecting flights halfway around the globe from Bolivia, Ninh Quang Thang returned to Vietnam to a warm welcome from his family, teachers, and friends.
Filled with pride and emotion, representatives from the Quang Ninh Department of Education and Training, Ha Long high school for gifted students, and Ninh Quang Thang’s family gathered at Noi Bai International Airport to welcome him home.
Thanks to the tireless efforts and strong determination of both teachers and students, Thang earned a well-deserved Bronze Medal at the 37th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI 2025), recently held in Bolivia.
Ninh Quang Thang’s achievement is not only a source of pride for himself, his family, and Ha Long high school for gifted students, but also marks a significant milestone affirming Quang Ninh’s standing in the global academic arena.

This is only the third time in history that a student from Quang Ninh has won a medal at an international Olympiad. The previous achievements include a Silver Medal in Chemistry at the 1998 International Chemistry Olympiad in Australia by Vi Anh Tuan from Cam Pha High School, and a Bronze Medal in Biology at the 2016 International Biology Olympiad hosted in Vietnam by Nguyen Ngoc Minh Hai from Ha Long High School for the Gifted.
The 37th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI 2025) was held in person from July 27 to August 3, 2025, in Bolivia, gathering 331 top contestants from 84 countries and territories.
As one of the world’s most prestigious academic competitions, the IOI is renowned for its scale and high level of expertise. All four Vietnamese participants earned medals, with Ninh Quang Thang securing a Bronze Medal on his first appearance at the competition.
This remarkable accomplishment is a well-deserved reward for his tireless dedication and also serves as a proud milestone for Quang Ninh’s education sector, inspiring today’s young learners to pursue excellence.
