The 22nd Vietnam Poetry Day themed “Harmony of the Country” was launched at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel in Hanoi on the evening of February 24 in the presence of Secretary of the Party Central Committee (PCC) and Head of the PCC’s Commission for Communication and Education Nguyen Trong Nghia.
Speaking at the ceremony, President of the Vietnam Writers’ Association Nguyen Quang Thieu called on poets to unite regarding the national harmony on the beauty and freedom of the country, adding that poetry lovers should receive and enjoy the beauty of the nation and poetry.
The opening ceremony featured poetry recitals by poets from regions across the country as well as from China and the Republic of Korea.
The highlight of the poetry night was a gathering of poets representing 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam who told stories about their own lands.
The two-day event will also include a seminar on poetry on the morning of February 25. A space was set up to display artifacts and works of 12 poets, including President Ho Chi Minh and 11 ethnic poets who won the Ho Chi Minh Awards for Literature and Arts.
