In the framework of a series of activities responding to the WED and International Year of sustainable energy 2012, on June 6, a workshop on green economy and sustainable development was jointly held by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Vietnam General Confederation of Labor and Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee. The workshop was attended by the Deputy Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Bui Cach Tuyen; Vice-Chairman of QNPPC Dang Huy Hau and 150 scientists and environmental experts.
At the workshop, many experts and scientists have raised a wide range of issues related to the green economy development, including the approaching ways to speed up the green economy; promoting green industry towards green economy; using renewal energies on seas; and development orientation of Vietnam.
Also at the workshop, Mr. Dang Huy Hau emphasized that the workshop meets the current orientation of the province which is shifting from “hot” growth into green growth. Therefore, in order to reach the target of “a green economy and growth”; attaching economic development to sustainable development, developing Quang Ninh to be an industrial province oriented to mordernization by 2015, the province is undertaking the following measures: drawing a comprehensive planning of environmental protection at provincial and district levels; intensifying propaganda and education activities to raise people’s awareness of environmental protection; limiting environmental pollution and promoting the environmental protection.
The workshop is a demonstration of Vietnam’s commitment in dealing with global environmental issues at global level responding to the RIO+20 UN Conference to be taken place in Brazil in June 20-22.
