On May 27, the Vietnam Centre for Economic and Policy Research (VEPR) and University of Economics and Business, Vietnam National University – Hanoi launched the Vietnam Annual Economic Report 2013, titled “On the Bumpy Road to the Future”.
Vietnam Annual Economic Report is published to summarize major economic issues during the year and discuss economic prospects for the coming year and policy implications in the current context.
Assoc. Prof. Doctor Phung Xuan Nha, President of Vietnam National University - Hanoi, said that this year’s report with the title reflects a worrying premonition that the country’s economic restructuring process seems to be losing its momentum compared to the time it was first proposed two years ago, unless there are strong reforms with more concrete results.
With seven chapters and two appendixes, this year’s report focuses on the characteristics of Vietnam’s inflation post WTO accession, 2006-2013, non-performing loans disposal for the commercial banking system – from international experiences to Vietnam’s practices, the risk of de-industrialization of Vietnam post ASEAN-China free trade agreement accession, adjustments in the labour market in a time of economic fluctuations and structural changes, and Vietnam’s economic prospects in 2013 and policy implications.
The Vietnamese report, which comprises more than 400 pages, is expected to be published in early July, 2013. The English version will be published one month after that on the international market.
