On Nov. 23, in Ha Long city, Chairman of Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Long chaired a meeting with General Director of Vietnam Airlines (VNA) Duong Tri Thanh regarding the cooperation agreement with Quang Ninh to open a new air service at the Van Don International Airport.
After 3 years of construction, to date, the Van Don International Aiport has been basically completed, and slated for late December this year. This is the first airport of Vietnam that is invested by a private investor.
Designed to serve 2 million passengers a year by 2020, the airport features a 3.6km long and 45m wide runway and will be capable of handling large cargo and passenger aircrafts, and will serve nine flight routes with a capacity of 10,000 passenger arrivals per day.
At the meeting, the VNA’s leader highly evaluated the infrastructure investment, especially the transport infrastructure of Quang Ninh. VNA wished to cooperate with Quang Ninh for the mutual development.
As planned, the VNA will launch a flight per day from Ho Chi Minh city to Van Don International Airport right after the airport is put into operation in late December.
He also proposed Quang Ninh province to collaborate with the investors in advertising the operation of Van Don International Airporton mass media. He also hoped the province to support the VNA regarding its branch in Ha Long city, incentives for landing and take-off charges.
For his part, Quang Ninh Chairman Nguyen Duc Long highly appreaciated the cooperation tie between Vietnam Airlines and Quang Ninh province. Regarding the VNA’s proposals, he affirmed that Quang Ninh will consider to offer mechansims and incentives under authorisation to support bussinesses at the beginning stage. Meanwhiles, he also asked the VNA to continue their coopeartion with the Airport’s investor in order to ensure the best facilities so that the Van Don International Airport could be operational as scheduled, and welcome the first flight as soon as possible.
