Vietnam adds 40 to Covid-19 local tally

Another 40 Covid-19 patients were confirmed Friday morning, sending the domestic count of Vietnam's fourth wave to 3,295 in a month.

The new cases were recorded in Bac Giang, Lang Son, Thai Binh Provinces in the north and Long An Province that borders HCMC.

In Bac Giang, 30 cases are linked to clusters at its industrial parks.

Of the eight cases in Lang Son, seven are detected after developing symptoms of coughing and fever and one is related to a Covid-19 patient and has been isolated prior to the test result.

The case in Thai Binh is a man who had contact with a Covid-19 patient and has also been quarantined.

In Long An, the patient is a 45-year-old man working at HCMC's Sheraton Saigon Hotel. He works with a previously confirmed patient, a member of a HCMC religious mission that emerged as a new Covid cluster on Wednesday.

With him added, at least 37 Covid cases including 36 in HCMC have been associated with the mission cluster.

Vietnam entered its fourth wave of Covid-19 community transmission on April 27 and since then, 3,295 infections have been registered in 31 cities and provinces.

Bac Giang continues to have the highest infections, at 1,687, followed by its neighbor Bac Ninh with 676 cases.
