Việt Nam wishes to deepen friendship, multifaceted cooperation with Kenya
Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for Defence Soipan Tuya handed over a letter from the Kenyan President to President Lương Cường praising the close relationship between the two countries and affirming that Việt Nam is an outstanding development model.
Việt Nam values and wishes to deepen the friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Kenya, State President Lương Cường said while receiving Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for Defence Soipan Tuya in Hà Nội on Thursday.
The President welcomed the Kenyan official who represents Kenyan President William Ruto to attend the 4th Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit in Hà Nội, saying that her presence at the event shows Kenya's strong commitment to development issues and contributes to the success of the summit.
For her part, Tuya expressed her honour to be appointed as a special envoy by Kenyan President William Ruto to attend the P4G Summit, and took the opportunity to hand over a letter from the Kenyan President to President Cường praising the close relationship between the two countries and affirming that Việt Nam is an outstanding development model.
Based on the political trust between Việt Nam and Kenya, President Cường proposed that both sides strive to realise huge potential in areas of mutual strength, particularly investment, trade, agriculture, and tourism.
Regarding defence cooperation, he suggested the two countries' defence ministries explore collaboration in defence industry, logistics, military medicine, and share experience in participating in United Nations peacekeeping operations.
On multilateral collaboration, the President asked Kenya to act as a bridge to support Việt Nam in strengthening relations with the African Union (AU) and regional organisations of which Kenya is a member. Both sides should enhance the voice of developing countries as well as coordinate support each other at multilateral forums.
Tuya expressed her agreement with the host's proposals, saying that Kenya also wishes to serve as a gateway to promote bilateral trade as well as trade between Việt Nam and the East African region. In the short term, she proposed that the two countries soon expand cooperation in the fields of defence-security, food security, social housing development, and universal healthcare.
On this occasion, President Cường invited Kenyan President William Ruto to visit Việt Nam and thanked for his Kenyan counterpart's invitation to visit Kenya.
