Viet Nam receives fourth batch of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine

The fourth batch of 288,000 AstraZeneca vaccine doses bought by the Viet Nam Vaccine Joint Stock Company (VNVC) arrived in Viet Nam on Tuesday night, according to the Ministry of Health.

This is the second batch of COVID-19 vaccine imported by VNVC and the fourth batch of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine shipped to Viet Nam, bringing the total number of received doses to nearly 2.9 million so far.

Viet Nam began the national vaccination program on March 8 with health workers among the top priority groups.

As many as 1,034,072 doses were administered as of late May 25, according to the Ministry of Health.

Of the above figure, 28,503 people have got the two COVID-19 vaccine shots, the ministry added.

The Government planned to acquire 150 million vaccine doses to cover 70% of the country’s population.

On May 18, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh reiterated that COVID-19 vaccine purchase is an urgent task that must be immediately carried out.

As of 6:00 am on May 26, Viet Nam recorded 5,931 COVID-19 cases including 4,442 local infections.

Among the domestic cases, 2,872 were recorded since the 4th wave of outbreaks began in the country late last month.

As many as 2,794 patients have been cleared of the virus and exited hospitals while the death toll stands at 44./.
