On Nov. 11, in Ha Long city, Vice Chairwoman of QNPPC Vu Thi Thu Thuy had a courtesy meeting with Mr. Paul Dingwall - an expert of International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), who is undertaking a reactive monitoring mission in Ha Long Bay.
Speaking at the reception, Vice Chairwoman expressed her pleasure to welcome IUCN’s expert to the province. She affirmed that Quang Ninh has recently issued a wide range of resolutions and taken various measures in order to conserve and promote the values of the Ha Long Bay world natural heritage site.
Thuy also wished that IUCN, with its experiences and initiatives, will assist Quang Ninh to find effective methods to properly conserve, manage and develop Ha Long Bay’s values.
For his part, Mr. Paul Dingwall has sincerely thanked Quang Ninh’s leaders for their cordial reception. He highly appreciated QNPPC’s efforts in conserving Ha Long Bay in recent years. He agreed that the conflict between conservation and development is a common issue to almost of the heritage sites in all over the world. Ha Long Bay’s challenge is environmental protection. However, he believed that with the close-knit cooperation between Quang Ninh and IUCN, Ha Long Bay would be managed, conserved and promoted in an effective way.
