Van Don International Airport to resume commercial flights from May 4

After a postpone due to Covid-19 pandemic, commercial flights at Van Don International Airport will re-operate from May 4, starting with Van Don – Ho Chi Minh City route. The airport will continue applying preventive measures against the disease while offering appealing demand promotion campaigns.

Specifically, a daily flight on the Van Don - Ho Chi Minh City route will be offered by budget carrier Vietjet, while four weekly flights (every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday) on the route will be provided by national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines from May 16 and Bamboo Airways is to operate a daily flight on the route from June 1.

Vietnam Airlines will also operate three flights (on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday) per week linking Van Don and Da Nang from May 16.

The airport will open new routes to Phu Quoc and Nha Trang in 4th quarter. It is considering new international from China and South Korea under the form of series charter and charter flights which are expected to open in 4th quarter when those countries have the COVID-19 pandemic under control and it gets permission to reopen international commercial flights.

Passengers using Van Don international airport may enjoy preferential promotion campaigns, for example, free tickets to Ha Long Bay and Yen Tu, free bus service between Ha Long and Van Don, 50% discount on cable car service in Yen Tu, and discounted tickets at Sun Group entertainment complexes across Vietnam, including Sun World Ha Long Complex, Sun World Ba Na Hills, Sun World Hon Thom Nature Park, and all Sun Group hotels and resorts.

“The airport will coordinate closely with Quang Ninh authorities in implementing tourism promotion campaigns and flight expansion to developthe airport intoan important gateway connecting and speeding up socio-economic development of the province, the northeast region and the whole country”, Van Don Airport Director Pham Ngoc Sau said.

Although the Government has lifted the Directive No.16 on social distancing, Van Don International Airport will maintain Covid-19 preventive measures which have been applied so far.

Being one of a few airports which are assigned to receive flight from disease-hit areas, Van Don has received 36 flights bringing 5,600 passengers safe and sound.
