As part of activities celebrating the 60th tradition day of Vietnam’s fishery sector, Quang Ninh province held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a 2,600-square meter commemorative area recalling Uncle Ho's visit to Tuan Chau island on April 1, 1959.
Prominent among those were Head of the External Relations Commission of the Party Central Committee Hoang Binh Quan, Chairman of the NA's Committee on Economic Affairs Vu Hong Thanh and Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong.
Chinese delegation led by Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Yu Kangzhen also attended the ceremony.
Quang Ninh leaders taking part in the event included Secretary of the provincial Party’s Committee Nguyen Van Doc and the province’s Chairman Nguyen Duc Long.
Uncle Ho visited Tuan Chau island on April 1, 1959. The day then has become the traditional day of Vietnam’s fishery sector.
During his visit, Uncle Ho asked people and fishermen to further promote solidarity, and build a rich economy on the island which is powerful in national defence, healthy in politics and has beautiful landscapes.
The commemorative area recalling Uncle Ho's visit to Tuan Chau island is built at Ben Nam (the Southern Wharf), where the ship carrying the great president docked, and next to the Uncle Ho relic site. With a total area of 2,600 square meters, the area includes a square, a stele house and a stele on which the information concerning his visit is sculptured.
