Traditional mooncakes – the taste of memory

In Vietnam, nibbling on mooncakes and sipping tea with loved ones is an essential part of the Mid-autumn Festival.

How to make the mooncake filling

Ingredient: lime leaves, stir-fried onion, smoked sausage, roasted peanuts, roasted sesame, melon seeds, oil, sugar, pumpkin jam, lotus jam, and pepper, rose dew wine.

Pour an considerable amount of water into the filling and mix well together. Shape the filling in form of tiny balls.

How to make the mooncake skin

Mix the pastry with sugar water until the mixture does not stick to your hands. Divide the mixture into small parts then flat them out to make the moon cake skin. Put the filling into the moon cake skin. Then put them into molds.

The sticky mooncakes are made from sticky rice flour and can be eaten fresh while baked mooncakes are baked in the oven.

Mid-Autumn Festival is seen as a special time for reunion and harmony while the mooncakes remind everyone of childhood memory.
