Mong Cai city’s Tra Co has recently been recognized as the national tourism site by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. This event was one of the highlight of the Ha Long-Quang Ninh Tourism Week 2019.
Earlier, on April 24, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Le Quang Tung signed the decision No.1501/QD-BVHTTDL to recognize Tra Co as the national tourism site. Accordingly, Tra Co National Tourism Site covers an area of 44.036 ha, including 18,238 ha of the land area and 25,798 ha of the water surface. Its North is adjacent to Ka Long river, the South is near the East sea while the East is bordering to China and the West is adjacent to Hai Yen ward (Mong Cai City, Quang Ninh).
The recognition is to implement the Decision No.201 / QD-TTg by the Prime Minister on the approval of the master plan for Vietnam tourism development till 2020, and in a vision to 2030. It will not only help attract more tourist arrivals to the site in particular and Mong Cai city in general but also boost Quang Ninh tourism development.
With this recognition, Tra Co becomes the first national tourism site in Quang Ninh and one of the Vietnam’s 4 national tourism sites. This reflects the significant role of Tra Co tourism site to the tourism – service development of not only Mong Cai city and Quang Ninh in particular but also the nation in general.
Tra Co has been known as an attractive tourism area in Mong Cai city with a beautiful white smooth sandy beach stretching 17km. It has been known for the longest, nearest to the border, most primitive and most romantic beach so it annually attracts a large number of tourists. It would be an interesting experience for any visitors to visit Sa Vi Cape - a Vietnam’s northeastern-most point. Besides Sa Vi Cape, Tra Co has rich potentials and advantages for the tourism development with a great number of historical and cultural relics, golf courses, temples and churches. Fertile mangrove forest is also the home to a range of marine species and facilitate aquaculture.
Over the past years, tourism infrastructure, including a system of hotels and restaurants; entertainment complex has been improved by the city and enterprises in an effort to satisfy the increasing demand of tourists to Tra Co. Very close to Tra Co, with natural scenery, beautiful beaches and fresh atmosphere, the two island communes of Vinh Trung and Vinh Thuc has become a magnet for tourists in the recent years, contributing to the tourism development of Mong Cai city. Moreover, Tra Co national tourism site is also adjacent to the Mong Cai International Border Gate as well as other trade centers, which is favourable for the development of different kinds of tourism.
However, in oder to effectively exploit this National Tourism site, important works need to be done, for instance, improvement of the transport infrastructure, diversifying tourism products, enhancing the quality of human resource in tourism and services,... In addition, robust measures to manage and exploit tourism routes and attractions in Tra Co must be undertaken as soon as possible; tourism promotion and marketing must be intensified. Moreover, it is important that Quang Ninh’s relevant sectors and departments have to study and propose the Government to consider appropriate policies and mechanisms to promote sustainable tourism development for the Tra Co National Tourism Site so that it could become an international tourism site in the future.
