In recent years, tourism and services has been determined as the key drivers for Quang Ninh’s economic growth. The province targets to become an international tourism hub by 2020 with economic structure of industry and services.
With this specific goal, over the past years, the whole political system, people and tourism enterprises of Quang Ninh have been actively involved in developing attractive Quang Ninh tourism in accordance with the national strategy and direction of tourism and service development.
Tourism is one of the important sectors which has been paid with much concerns to be developed. At the Vietnam Tourism Human Resources Forum 2019 in Ho Chi Minh City on April 12, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan strongly focused that the Party and State consider human resources, strategies, and infrastructure as the top three pillars for strategic breakthroughs of Vietnam tourism.
The Prime Minister made strong focus on hospitality while asking functional authorities to raise local people’s awareness of tourism development and improve the quality of the workforce.
Infrastructure, especially tourism, transport, and cultural infrastructure, is one of the most vital factors in developing tourism.
Regarding strategies, the PM asked the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to set up long-term strategies and undertake annual action plans to balance the development of economy, culture and environment, and ensure the quantity and quality of the labor force.
These three above-mentioned key drivers are bases that help tourism sector and localities nationwide to set up strategies and long-term plans to develop tourism and services in an effective and professional way.
With a wide range of tourist attractions as its potential for tourism development, in recent years, Quang Ninh has made much efforts in setting up strategies to develop sustainable tourism.
In terms of human resource, Quang Ninh has issued and implemented the Code of Conduct namely "Smile of Ha Long" that focuses on developing Quang Ninh’s creative and friendly people with hospitality and building an attractive, safe and civilized tourism and services climate. In particular, in order to achieve higher results in development of tourism and services, "Improving service’s quality and efficiency" has been regarded as the topic of the year 2019.
Determining infrastructure as one of the most important drivers for tourism development, Quang Ninh has put high priority on infrastructure investment. A variety of the key construction works were invested in Quang Ninh, such as: Sun World HaLong Park; Ecological tourist resort FLC Ha Long; Tuan Chau international tourism complex; the Provincial Museum and Library, the Quang Ninh Expo and Fair center; Ha Long-Hai Phong and Ha Long-Van Don expressways; Van Don International Airport; Ha Long International Cruise Port, etc. In addition, a large hotel system has been built, including: Vinpearl Ha Long Bay Resort, Wyndham Legend Halong, Novotel Halong, Royal Lotus Halong, etc....
With the aim of becoming an international tourism hub with economic structure of modern industrial and services by the year of 2020, Quang Ninh has implemented a series of projects on developing sustainable tourism, including building smart city with the highlight of smart tourism.
As reported, a large amount of positive achievements has been gained in the areas of tourism and services, thanks to robust measures undertaken by Quang Ninh in recent years. In 2018, the province received 12.2 million tourist arrivals, including 5.2 million international arrivals-the highest ever record and earned VND23,600 billion in tourism revenue, a year on year rise of 28% over the same period of 2017 while the number of visitors coming to the province was estimated at 5.4 million in just only the first quarter of 2019, up 13% in comparison with the same period last year. Of which, the number of international arrivals in the Q1 was 1.5 million. The total revenue was VND 9,105 billion.
These figures are good signs for Quang Ninh tourism sector on the way to the sustainable development in the upcoming time.
