On March 7th in Hanoi, the UNESCO Office and the Centre for Cultural Heritage Research and Promotion under the Vietnam Culture Heritage Association held a seminar on teaching heritage at schools in Vietnam.
In 2010, the UNESCO office in Hanoi supported and coordinated with the Centre for Cultural Heritage Research and Promotion (CHH) under the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Association to carry out a pilot project combining with schools to develop heritage education at museums, relic sites and historical cultural sites in Hanoi.
In 2011, the UNESCO office in Hanoi and CHH conducted surveys and assessed several projects, models and approach methods for heritage education at schools in Vietnam. So far, several projects in primary and secondary schools in Hanoi and the northern provinces of Hoa Binh and Quang Ninh have been assessed.
Most projects aim to renovate teaching and learning methods. By combining local cultural heritage education in teaching with other activities at schools, projects have helped students to experience and understand the value of cultural heritage. Thus, students will be aware of the importance of heritage preservation.
The majority of models and approaching methods have brought high education effectiveness for students and teachers. Subjects and topics have become more interesting, and students are eager to participate in activities in classrooms.
Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Vinh Hien said that heritage education has become a demand, a task and a driving force for high schools, making an important contribution to educating students and improving the quality of comprehensive education in Vietnam./.
