A number of special cultural activities to welcome the Lunar New Year 2016 will be held in Hanoi from January 29th to February 13th.
Activities include the Spring Newspaper Festival 2016, meetings with artists, writers, intellectuals and dignitaries, arts and sports performances, as well as folk games all over the districts and suburban districts of Hanoi.
Besides, on the lunar New Year's Eve, Hanoi will put on fireworks displays at 31 destinations. The displays will last for 15 minutes from midnight on February 8th. Moreover, the six points putting on higher altitude fireworks are Sword Lake, Lenin Park, Nguyen Hoang Ton Park, Van Quan Lake, and My Dinh National Stadium.
The 2016 Hanoi Spring Press Festival, an important annual media event in the capital, officially kicked off on January 29th at the Hanoi Friendship Cultural Palace.
This year’s festival features 26 booths displaying hundreds of spring publications from central and local press agencies in Hanoi, as well as other localities.
The publications, including magazines, print and pictorial editions, audio and television products and online newspapers, praise the Party and Uncle Ho as well as introduce achievements in all fields that the country, particularly the capital, has made over the last year.
A program entitled “Discovering Tet” which is taking place at the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology from January 29th creates a space for Hanoi students to learn about the traditional New Year customs and rituals.
They will have a chance to explore Tet through a number of activities such as making banh chung (steamed rice cake), calligraphy, Dong Ho paintings and folk games
On February 13th-14th, the museum will organise the “Year of the Monkey” Festival with diversified activities introducing Tet.
Besides, an exhibition introducing Vietnamese folk paintings is being held at the Hanoi Old Quarter Cultural Exchange Center, No.50 Dao Duy Tu street, from January 29th to February 16th.
Traditional art performances such as ca tru (ceremonial song), hat xam (songs of itinerant blind musicians) will also be put on in Hanoi Old Quarter during the Binh Than Lunar New Year./.
