On September 25, the seminar on “Managing ocean plastic waste and Preserving biodiversity and the habitats of marine creatures” took place in Ha Long City.
The seminar was organized by Vietnam's Directorate of Fisheries, the International Union for Conservation of Nature, Quang Ninh’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, and the Green Development Support Center. The seminar chaired by Director General of Vietnam's Directorate of Fisheries, Tran Dinh Luan, attracted the participation of nearly 100 delegates.
It focused on discussing the importance of partnerships to develop action plans of reducing plastic waste pollution in the fisheries sector; sharing experiences in plastic waste management and making voluntary commitment to plastic waste reduction in the fisheries sector.
Within the agenda of the seminar, the participants made a farm trip to study the use of floating materials in aquaculture on Ha Long Bay. They also signed commitments on plastic waste reduction in the fisheries sector. Particularly Vietnam's Directorate of Fisheries and International Union for Conservation of Nature signed an MOU on cooperation and aquatic conservation for the period 2020 - 2025.
