Facing the complicated development of Covid 19 epidemic, it is necessary to use islolation equipment to prevent contamination.
Since Mar 8, Quang Ninh Province has invested in the Provincial General Hospital a negative pressure airborne isolation room which meets international standards for negative presure and clean filtration. This special room aims to serve the treatment for patients with confirmed Covid 19 infection and prevent cross-contamination to the community. The first negative pressure airborne isolation room in the province is located at the Department of Tropical Diseases under the Provincial General Hospital.
According to heath experts, the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes acute respiratory disease can be transmitted via patients’ droplets spread into the air. Besides, the droplet path lines can be more complicated when the airflow in a hospital moves freely. Therefore, to prevent the spread of potentially deadly virus, patients will be isolated in a special negative pressure room. For any patient with the Covid 19 infection, their virus-containing droplets would not be able to move against the air flow to escape outside the door. As a result, the cross-contamination via the air flow among patients will be extinguished.
The negative pressure system connected with a remote control via a smart phone helps doctors and medical staff control remote technical specifications to avoid direct contact with devices, ensuring safety for medical staff. However, the infection risk inside the special room is existed, it is necessary for doctors and medical staff to stricly follow the disinfection procedures, wear protective clothing and face masks
Once operational, the Provincial General Hospital’s negative pressure airborne isolation room plays an important role in treating patients with Covid 19, avoiding re-infection for patients while minimizing cross-contamination, thus contributing to effective Covid-19 prevention in Quang Ninh.
