The festival of Quynh Lam was organized in Dong Trieu town within two days from Mar. 9, or the 1st day of the second lunar month.
The festival included a range of traditional rituals such as procession from the heart of Trang An commune to the pagoda, drumming and bell ringing ritual; incesne offering and praying for the peace and happiness for the country and people.
Coming to the festival, locals and visitors will have chances to enjoy attractive art performances and take part in cultural and sport programs as well as folk games during the event.
Located at Trang An commune, Dong Trieu town, Quynh Lam pagoda was built in King Ly Than Tong Dynasty by (1116-1138) Quoc su Nguyen Minh Khong. The conservation work of the pagoda was completed in late Ly-Tran dynasty.
In Tran Dynasty, run by Phap Loa Abbot, Quynh Lam Pagoda became the training center of Truc Lam Zen. He was a great contributor to build and expand the Pagoda into Quynh Lam Monastery with separate areas of pagoda, school, monastery…, developing the pagoda into a large buddism center of the whole country.
Quynh Lam pagoda used to be a resistance base in Dong Trieu town. It has been destroyed many times, leaving only some remnants until now. Currently, the pagoda has been upgraded with the total investment capital of over VND160 billion from socialized source in an effort to greatly contribute to preserving the vital relics included in the Tran Dynasty Special National Relic Site.
