On July 7, Phong Coc Ward People’s Committee, Quang Yen Town opened the “going to the field” festival 2019 at Phong Coc Communal House.
The festival originated from the customs “Hạ điền” (going to the field ceremony) and “Thượng điền” (harvesting ceremony) of locals in Ha Nam region in the early of the sixth month in lunar calendar.
This year, the festival takes place on July 6 and 7. The main rituals to the gods of agriculture and tutelary wish for a bumper crop and happiness. After the rituals at the communal house, officiating priests went to a paddy to plant first rice plants, witnessed by local villagers.
Along with ritual ceremonies, a range of exciting activities have been held for locals and tourists to enjoy, such as boat racings for male and female on the river in front of the communal house.
In addition, art performances have been also organized, such as Cheo (traditional opera) performances in the communal house's yard, Dum singing, folk performances...
The festival is considered as a chance to boost socio-economic emulation movements in the whole town, meanwhile promote local cultural features in developing cultural, historical, spiritual and eco-tourisms in the coming time.
