Quang Ninh attends 42nd session of the World Heritage Committee

Quang Ninh’s delegation led by Vice Chairwoman of Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee Vu Thi Thu Thuy, along with other representatives of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Ministry, have attended the 42nd session of the World Heritage Committee on June 24 in Manama, Bahrain.

The Committee will examine the state of conservation of 157 heritage sites and 54 of which are on the list of World Heritage in Danger. Notably, the historic centre of Shakhrisyabz (Uzbekistan) will be examined with the view of its deletion from the World Heritage List.

During the session, the delegation of Quang Ninh met with the leaders of the World Heritage Center, Secretariat of the World Heritage Committee and consutltants of UNESCO for their consutltancy and support to Quang Ninh province in the “Accessing the effective management of the Halong Bay World Heritage Site” project. Particularly, the delegation had a working session with the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) in order to ask for their consultancy to prepare the documentation nominating Yen Tu Relic as the world heritage.

The 42nd session of the World Heritage Committee will wrap up on July 4.
