On March 14, the pre-feasibility study report for the project to build an undersea tunnel at Ha Long city’s Cua Luc Bay was approved at the 11th session of the provincial People’s Council held under the chairmanship of Secretary of the provincial Party’s Committee cum Chairman of the provincial People’s Council Nguyen Van Doc.
Situated at the lower part of Bai Chay bridge, the tunnel will connect Vuon Dao T-junction of Bai Chay ward and the coastal roads of the Vinhomes urban area in Ha Long city’s Hon Gai ward. It is expected to have six lanes for vehicles and the total length is 2,750 metres. The project costing more than 9.7 trillion VND (417.6 million USD) is estimated to be implemented within 5 years from 2019.
The construction of the tunnel will ease traffic congestion on Bai Chay bridge and in the downtown of Ha Long city, meeting forecasted future traffic demands and connecting the chain of tourism products in the west and the east of the city.
Speaking at the session, Secretary of the provincial Party’s Committee cum Chairman of the provincial People’s Council Nguyen Van Doc highlighted the great significance of the project which has been already listed in the province’s medium-term public investment plan (2016-2020 period) and asked relevant departments to promptly accomplish the report to submit to the Prime Minister.
Affirming that this is considered Vietnam’s biggest undersea tunnel and a symbol for the rapid development of a modern marine tourism city, he reminded these departments to pay much attention to environmental proctection solutions during the construction of the project so that residents’ daily lives, tourism and marine activities do not have to suffer from negative effects.
