At a ceremony in Ha Noi on June 9, Ms. Hoang Thu Thuy, 28, Secretary of the Youth Communist Union of Ha Phong Ward, Ha Long city, has donated her blood 26 times since 2008. Thuy is one of the 100 outstanding blood donors who were honoured for their contributions to the country’s voluntarily blood donation movement.
The event is part of a series of activities to celebrate World Blood Donor Day (June 14) across Viet Nam, organised by the National Steering Committee for Voluntarily Blood Donation Mobilisation, the Ministry of Health and the Viet Nam Red Cross Society.
World Blood Donor Day is aimed at raising awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank blood donors for their life-saving gifts. In Vietnam, the national activity to recognise the great deeds of the donors has been held since 2007.
There are 100 representative individuals from 63 cities and provinces, ministries and sectors honoured in the campaign each year.
