New stamps on Vietnamese cuisine released

The Ministry of Information and Communications, in collaboration with Vietnam Post, has issued new stamps featuring popular Vietnamese food.

With a realistic design style, the new stamp set includes four samples featuring the four local dishes of bánh xèo (sizzling pancakes), bánh mì (street-food sandwich), cơm tấm (broken rice), and bánh khọt (mini savoury pancakes), with the ingredients displayed in a prominent style introducing the sophistication and quintessence of each dish.

The stamps for bánh xèo, bánh mì, and cơm tấm are priced at VNĐ4,000, while the bánh khọt are VNĐ19,000.

They are 43mmx32mm and designed by artist Nguyễn Du from Vietnam Post. They will be available on the public postal network from October 10, 2022, to June 30, 2024.

As part of the Ẩm Thực Việt Nam (Vietnamese Cuisine) stamp collection, the set is an effort to honour the beauty of Vietnamese culinary culture, promote the values of Vietnamese art of cuisine and introduce it to international friends.

The collection comprises three stamp sets issued in the past three years of 2020, 2021 and 2022, presenting famous and typical dishes of three regions of North, Central and South, such as phở gà (chicken noodles), bún chả (vermicelli with grilled pork and fresh herbs) and bún thang (vermicelli noodles with assorted toppings).

Aside from the three sets of Vietnamese Cuisine, the Vietnam Post issued in 2008 a set of stamps called Các Món Ăn Việt Nam (Vietnamese Dishes), including introducing nem rán (fried spring rolls) and phở bò (beef noodles).

Việt Nam is known worldwide as a country with a unique culinary culture due to its numerous special foods and spices creating distinctive features of the three regions of the North, Central and South. Vietnamese dishes are often served in attractive and delicate decorations to expose the standard profession of the cook and respect for eaters.
