On May 12, Quang Ninh’s vice-chairman Dang Huy Hau presided over the meeting with Ha Long City People’s Committee regarding the plan of new aquaculture farming outside the core zone of Ha Long Bay.
According to the report made by Ha Long City People’s Committee, new aquaculture farming located outside the core zone of Ha Long Bay covers an area of 890 ha. The farming will not affect the preservation of the bay, the waterborne traffic and be suitable with provincial environment planning by 2020 with a vision to 2030.
In his conclusion, Quang Ninh’s vice chairman asked Ha Long City to reconsider and adjust the area of farming. Accordingly, the aquatic farming must be in line with sustainable tourism development on Ha Long Bay. He suggested the city’s authority to develop regulations on managing aquaculture activities on the bay and clearly define the method of farming, the aquatic products to be cultivated, materials used during the process of cultivation in order to absolutely protect Ha Long Bay.
