On Feb. 17, Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, along with her entourage, paid a working visit to some of the oustanding transport projects in Quang Ninh.
During the visit, a brief introduction about Van Don International Airport and Ha Long International Cruise Port was made by Quang Ninh’s leaders and Sun Group to the delegation.
Accordingly, Van Don International Airport, which was built under the build–operate–transfer investment form with the total capital of VND7,463 billion, went into operation in late December of 2018. It is capable of handling 2.5 million passengers and 10,000 tons of cargo per year. Upon completion of all three phases in 2030, the airport will be capable of handling 5 million passengers per year.
Currently, there are 3 leading Vietnam’s carriers namely Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet and Bamboo Airways operating air routes via Van Don International Airport with a frequence of 30 flights per week. As estimated, there were more than 10,000 passenger arrivals between Quang Ninh and Ho Chi Minh city routes via the airport since its official operation. All the passengers were satisfied with the safety and security during their flights.
Passengers on flights to Van Don international airport are offered free entrance to Yen Tu relic site (in Uong Bi city), Ha Long Bay World Natural Heritage site and Bai Tu Long Bay (excluding overnight visit on the bay) within 30 days. Incentives will be offered to the passengers for a duration of 3 years from Jan. 1, 2019 to Dec 31, 2021.
The Ha Long International Cruise Port is the first of its kind in Vietnam and was operated in late November of 2018. With a total investment capital of 45 million USD, the port is designed to receive two large cruise ships with capacity of 8,500 passengers each, at once. To date, the port has received 21 interantional cruise shiparrivals, bringing over 50,000 passengers and crew members to Ha Long Bay.
After visiting these two newly - operated transport projects of Quang Ninh, the NA’s Chairwoman congratulated the province on its breakthroughs in developing motive works in an effort to lure invetsment into the province. She highly aprreciated great efforts of Quang Ninh in flexibly mobilizing all the sources to develop synchronous infrastrtucture system, showing the success of the Party and Government’s guideline in mobilization of the capital sources to carry out investment projects.
“It hasn’t been done in this way by any the provinces and cities nationwide. The success of Quang Ninh shows the great efforts of the whole political system, and the unanimous agreement of the people of Quang Ninh province in conducting the socio-economic development tasks”, emphasized the NA’s Chairwoman.
