The mushroom seasons in Tien Yen district falls from March to May and from August to October in the lunar calendar. It is only found in natural forests in Ha Lau and Phong Du communes. Mushroom cultivation is becoming a new job for the local people and help to raise their awareness of protecting the natural forests.
Primitive forests in Ha Lau and Phong Du communes are great habitat for mushrooms. Mushrooms are as big as a bowl and usually grow at night, so the mushroom picker must get up at 2 am to go to the forest to pick them.
Mushrooms are often sliced or shredded by hand for easy eating. When fried, it has their own flavor. It will be more deliciouswhen served with beef.
The 300ha primitive forest in Na Hac village, Ha Lau commune, is adjacent to the residential area. Thanks to the active involvement of the locals, it has been protected for hundreds of years. Na Hac people have been conscious of solidarity and protection of forests for many generations, because they understand that forests protect their lives. They keep water sources for daily life and irrigating fields.
Since 2015, Ha Lau Commune's People Committee has connected with Tien Yen Protection Forest Management Board to sign forest protection contracts with all 28 households in Na Hac village. A working team was also set up by the village to protect the forest.
