According to the Department of Education and Training, the Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha sent a letter of appreciation to Nguyen Thanh Dat, a primary school student in the mountainous district of Hoanh Bo.
He highly appreciated the student’s great efforts to overcome all of the difficulties in living conditions to pursue his passion for learning English. He also asked the boy to spend reasonable time studying other subjects well to become a comprehensive good student and a contributive citizen in the future.
In addition, the minister gave thanks to Dat’s parents who raised the hard-working student and kept offering him with active encouragement.
On March 12, Nguyen Thanh Dat was awarded the certificate of appreciation and a scholarship worth VND 5 million by the Director of the provincial Department of Education and Training and a present valued at VND 2 million by the provincial Association for Promoting Education.
Egroup Education Cooperation, the host organization of Apax English center where Dat is learning, granted him a full scholarship until he graduates from high school.
On every Saturday and Sunday, Dat’s mother takes him to Ha Long city by motorbike to learn English. Among all of the primary school students studying at the Dong Son primary and secondary school, this boy is now the only one able to speak English.
