Viet Nam received the first donation of 966,320 doses of COVID-19 vaccine from Japan on June 17. The vaccines have been administered to residents in Ho Chi Minh City, Bac Giang and Bac Ninh.

On June 21, Japanese Lower House chief Oshima Tadamori told Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue that Japan pledged to continue vaccine donations to Viet Nam to help the Southeast Asian country reach herd immunity and revive the economy.

The Vietnamese Government is making every effort to acquire 150 million doses for 70 percent of its population this year.

In a latest move, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh wants Viet Nam to be able to produce COVID-19 vaccine no later than June 2022.

He demanded highest resolve in both vaccine research and transfer of production technology to realize the above goal as soon as possible.
