Having been launched by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in 2014; coordinated and assisted by IUCN, the Ha Long-Cat Ba Alliance initiative has come up with measures to protect the environment of Ha Long Bay, Quang Ninh and Cat Ba archipelago, focusing on improving the water quality and preserving the bio-diversity in these areas.

The project involved the active participation of units, businesses to deal with solid waste treatment via “For a green Ha Long” campaign, banning foam floats and single use plastic products in Ha Long Bay as well as setting up a surveillance system to supervise and preserve outstanding bio-diversity values of Ha Long bay and Cat Ba Island.
