The 2019 Lunar New Year (Tet) tree-planting festival, themed “Forever grateful to Uncle Ho”, was launched in Hai Ha district on Feb. 11 (or the seventh day of the Lunar New Year 2019). This is an annual event launched in localities across the country on the occasion of Lunar New Year according to the Vietnamese custom.
After the opening ceremony, more than 20,000 green trees with different species were planted.
According to a report made by the People’s Committee of Hai Hai, the district planted the 350 hectares of concentrated forest and thousands of green tress in 2018, raising the forest coverage to over 61 percent. Meanwhile, the total of natural forests was estimated at more than 30,000 hectares.
In 2019, Hai Ha district targets to plant an addition of 350 hectares of concentrated forest and maintain the forest coverage of 61 percent. Organizations and locals are also requested to actively engage in growing trees and forests as well as taking actions against deforestation as part of efforts to protect the environment.
