Ha Long city: Smoking to be banned at all schools and hospitals

On September 27, the People’s Committee of Ha Long City held a conference to carry out tobacco harms prevention and control for the period of 2019-2020.

In order to build Ha Long as a “smoke-free tourism city”, in the period of 2017-2018, local functional authorities had enhanced propaganda activities to disseminate harmful effects of tobacco to over 20,000 locals. Over 10 training courses on the prevention and control of tobacco harms were opened for 3,000 participants as restaurant and hotel staff, tour guides, and officials in the city.

For the 2019-2020 period, Ha Long City plans to promote the implementation of regulations on the prevention and control of tobacco harms; intensify propaganda to raise the tourists and local people’s awareness of tobacco harms; at the same time placing smoking ban signs at public-smoking spaces, maintaining and expanding models of smoke-free schools, hospitals, restaurants and hotels.
