In Ha Long city, Nov. 8, , Mr. Tran Trong Trung, vice-chairman of Ha Long city’s People Committee chaired a workshop on building Ha Long into a smoke-free tourist city. The workshop was attended by representatives from wards, authorities and organizations within the city.
This project is funded by the U.S. organization called “Campaign for Tobacco - Free Kids”. It has been carried out by the Community Development Assistance and Research Centre under the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations since March, 2009. After more than two years of implementation, the project has gained certain results. However, in order to achieve the goal of building Ha Long into a smoke-free tourist city, there are still many issues need to be addressed.
To close the workshop, the leader of Ha Long City’s People Committee requested localities and relevant units to continuously intensify the dissemination information about the harmful effects of smoking; to strengthen inspection and supervision of regulations on smoking ban at offices, organizations, and enterprises; and strictly punish violations.
