Binh Lieu is a destination for adventure tours, such as conquering the mountain tops of Cao Xiem, Cao Ba Lanh and Cao Ly, with the height of more than 1,000 meters. It is also an ideal destination for parachuting, mountaineering or camping.
With the diversified beauty of its natural landscapes and unique cultural features, Binh Lieu border highland has become an attractive destination for tourists and been called “miniature Sa Pa” of Quang Ninh province.
The climate in Binh Lieu is much different from the common weather in Quang Ninh. Located 600-800 meters above sea level, the temperature in Binh Lieu is often 2-3 Celsius degrees lower than that in Ha Long and Cam Pha. In summer, the climate is rather cool, but it drops to low level in winter. Sometimes, high mountain tops are covered with “white coats” of snow and ice, making the border district as beautiful as well-known tourist sites such as Mau Son and Sa Pa.
Binh Lieu’s tourism is famous for border patrol roads and waterfalls with pristine natural beauty such as the Falls of Khe Tien, Song Mooc and Khe Van. Visiting Binh Lieu in summer, tourists have a chance to drift themselves in limpid, fresh waterfalls or stand on mountain tops where they can contemplate the whole beautiful scenery of Binh Lieu from an ideal view. Autumn, the yellow season of Binh Lieu comes to winding terraced fields embracing hill bases that are beautiful, graceful and shy as mountain girls. Autumn is also a favorite season of holidaymakers when visiting Binh Lieu as it is covered with the white color of reed hills along with the yellow color of paddy fields. Right after the reed season, it comes to the largest and most-awaited Festival of So (Camellia sasanqua) Flowers which are a symbol of Binh Lieu. It has brought not only simple, plain beauty but also economic value to local people.
Spring is a season of culture and festivals imbued with unique features of ethnic minority groups in the border highland district. Binh Lieu has a rich, diversified culture with its own characters. As a multi-ethnic district with more than 96 percent of its population being ethnic minority people. Binh Lieu is home to five brotherly ethnic groups, namely Tay, Dao, San Chi, Hoa and Kinh.
