On the first day of the second lunar month, Dao Thanh Y ethnic minority people in Bang Ca commune (Hoanh Bo district) and visitors from all parts of the country flock to the spring festival.
This is the biggest festival of the Dao Thanh Y ethnic minority group in the year. The year-beginning festival is an occasion for local people to pray for peace, good weather, and bumper harvest and to strengthen solidarity within their families and villages.
It also serves as a chance for local ethnic minority people to take part in cultural exchanges and play folk games and sports such as “con” throwing (throwing a ball through a hoop) crossbow shooting and stick pushing.
