Diverse culture, tourism and sports events have taken place across the country to welcome the New Year.
A village festival was held in Le Mat village, Long Bien district on December 31st. Folklore dances of Thang Long, such as dragon dances, were performed at the stage behind Ly Thai To statue near Hoan Kiem Lake. Circus performances were also organized near Hoan Kiem Lake.
The Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism held 60 public performances to serve people in districts and towns.
Diverse cultural activities to welcome the New Year also took place in the central city of Da Nang from December 27th to 31st. There were special art performances on the evening of December 30th and 31st. According to initial statistics of Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, nearly 42,000 tourists visited the city on the occasion of Noel and the New Year, up nearly 32% in comparison with the same period last year.
During the first days of 2013, the temperature in Sapa town is about three degrees Celsius. Many tourists to Sapa are experiencing a cold that they usually only hear about from Europe.
