On July 2, Quang Ninh Provincial Party’s Standing Committee held a conference on July 2 in Ha Long city to discuss on adjustingthe master construction planning for Van Don Economic Zone (EZ) by 2040, and with a vision to 2050.
At the conference, the consulting unit has presented their proposal to adjust the master planning for Van Don EZ by 2040 and with a vision to 2050. Accordingly, Van Don will be developed into a multi-disciplinary marine economic zone, a hi-end integrated resort with casino. It will be an international trade gateway to create unique and modern products with high quality and international competitiveness. Also, Van Don will be turned into a green, modern, smart and sustainable urban area; a strategic area for defense and security.
The development space of Van Don EZ is divided into 2 main areas, including Cai Bau Island and Van Hai archipelago, which are oriented into 5 development belts with high-class eco-resort; eco-tourism in line with natural heritage protection; services, culture, entertainment urban; high-tech industry and logistics; development reserve expanded to the west of Van Don.
Addressing the meeting, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Van Doc requested the consulting unit to quickly adjust the master planning. Having said that, he emphasized that the planning must comply with the key direction of developing high-class services to attract tourists, not to target at developing residential areas.
The Secretary of the Provincial Party’s Committee also suggested that medicine and pharmacy, and seaport systems should be added in the master planning. For Van Hai island, it is necessary to focus on developing high-class marine tourism while maintaining the eco-system of Ba Mun island.
Regarding the land use planning, the Secretary requested that it is necessary to give priority to services and green trees, and maintaining primitive forests; limiting real estate business. In addition, technical infrastructure including electricity, water, information technology within Van Don EZ must be synchronously invested.
He assigned the Quang Ninh Economic Zone Authority in coordination with the consulting unit to collect the local people’s feedback, then complete the master plan and submit to the Provincial People's Council for approval.
