On Nov. 26, at Truc Lam Palace in Yen Tu relic site, Thuong Yen Cong commune, Uong Bi city, Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and Quang Ninh Province’s Buddhist Sangha Executive Board co-held a ceremony to commemorate the 711th Anniversary of King Tran Nhan Tong’s attainment of Nirvana (1308 - 2019).
The ceremony was attended by the leaders of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha Executive Board, Quang Ninh Province’s Buddhist Sangha Executive Board and representatives of the relevant departments, sectors, units, localities of Quang Ninh, along with a great number of monks, nuns and buddhist followers from all corners of the country.
At the ceremony, delegates reviewed the life, career and great contributions of the Buddha-King Tran Nhan Tong founded Truc Lam Zen Monastery and attained Nirvana on Nov. 1, 1308 at Ngoa Van Pagoda (now in An Sinh commune, Dong Trieu town, Quang Ninh province). During the history of national construction and protection, King Tran Nhan Tong was a genius leader and national hero. He was the only king in Vietnam to abdicate and practice Buddhism then became the founder of Truc Lam Zen which is considered typical for Vietnamese Buddhist tradition.
