Vietnam Maritime Administration has just submitted to the Ministry of Transport and Communications a proposal on upgrading Hon Gai - Cai Lan navigable route.
Under the project, a new turning basin will be built in front of Cai Lan port. It will have a diameter of 450m and the bottom elevation of -10m dredging of the nautical chart system in order to enable general ships of up to 50,000DWT (equivalent to 4,000TEU container ones) to come into and out of the wharf.
The project also covers the contruction of an extended marine route from Cai Lan port’s Wharf No.1 to Halong Ship Builing Factory. This route will be 2.7km in length and able to serve 10.000DWT ships and newly-built 70.000DWT ones.
The total investment capital sourced from the state budget is estimated to be about VND 500 billion under the medium-term public investment plan for the period of 2021-2025.
Officially established in 2007, Cai Lan Port, a deep-water port belonging to the Hon Gai port cluster in Quang Ninh province has currently being built and expanded into one of the largest ports in the North and Vietnam. Its handling capacity reached 5-8 million tons per year and it is able to receive ships of 1000 - 5000 tons.
In 2008, Cai Lan Port Investment Joint Stock Company entered into a joint venture with the world's leading maritime corporation, SSA Holdings International - Vietnam (SSAHVN), to establish Cai Lan International Container Terminal Co., Ltd. (CICT) ) to invest, construct and operate terminals No. 2, 3 and 4. These terminals are part of the master plan of Cai Lan port approved by the Prime Minister.
