As can be seen from above, Tra San is nestled in a high mountain range, surrounded by countless huge and small islands. It has an area of about 2 hectares, including a lagoon and underground caves with extremely rich flora and fauna.

Located in the middle of the area, Tra San lake covers an area of about 1.5 ha with a seabed full of sand and coral pieces. As it is a sheltered area, the biodiversity here is preserved intact. Moreover, there is a 70-meter long cave, which is almost submerged under tidal water level. The cave plays a vital role in connecting Tra San area with the lakes outside.

A part from its stunning untouched beauty, experts also find that Tra San lake is the world of biodiversity when discovering nearly 100 species of marine life, including many pretty coral species growing very well in this area. Therefore, since 2014, Tra San has become the site set landmarks by Ha Long Bay Management Board to protect the coral species.
