The third Ben Tre Coconut Festival 2012, with the theme “Ben Tre on the way for Integration and Development” opened in Ben Tre City on April 5.

The festival attracts the attendance of Vice President Nguyễn Thị Doan, former Deputy PM Trương Vĩnh Trọng, Lao Deputy PM Somsavat Lengsavath and representatives from the US, India and Indonesia.
The Festival aims to honor coconut growers, introduced the history and development of Bến Tre Province as well as its images and people.
It also provides a good chance for coconut growers to learn experiences and apply technology to improve productivity of coconut palms, advertise the image of coconut palms to the world and seek for foreign investment into the province.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the festival, Vice State President Nguyen Thị Doan said a part from their importance, coconut palms also contribute to environmental protection, climate adjustment and soil erosion prevention.
During the festival, a number of events are expected to take place such as exhibitions on products made from coconuts, food festivals, investment promotion conferences, tours around the province among others.
