Ao Dai charming on Thames River

Vietnamese and British audiences enjoyed the opportunity to watch a fashion show featuring Ao Dai – a traditional Vietnamese long dress - during the cultural event “Vietnam Open Festival” recently held on the Thames River in London.

The event commemorated 40 years since the establishment of Vietnam-UK diplomatic ties.

The focus of the programme was an Ao Dai collection made by Vietnamese designer, Hoang Hai.

The performance takes place on the Thames River, near London Eye and the tower of Big Ben

The event attracts many British people as well as Vietnamese expatriates, including students

The Ao Dai appears frequently in fashion shows and artistic performances

The stage is designed with cultural features such as dragon boats and Teu (a symbolic man in water puppet shows)

The event draws the participation of models from Vietnam, including supermodel Thuy Huong, model Cao Lam Vien, Vietnamese origin model Jenny Nguyen and British models

The two-day “Vietnam Open Festival” has attracted about 40,000 participants

Vietnamese-Swiss designer Lan Tschirky also attends the show, bringing ethnic minority brocade material into her designs
