On May 15, in Van Don district, Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee held an annoucement ceremony of the Resolution 102/NQ-CP dated Nov 14, 2019 on pilot establishment of Van Don Economic Zone Management Board. Prominent among those at the ceremony was Secretary of Quang Ninh Provincial Party’s Committee cum Chairman of Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Council, Nguyen Xuan Ky.
Van Phong (Khanh Hoa Province), Phu Quoc (Kien Giang Province) and Van Don (Quang Ninh Province) are identified as three key economic zones and 3 breakthrough points for development in the North, the Central and the South of Vietnam. Among those, Van Don is the only economic zone that is located in the Vietnam- China economic cooperation area, the extended Tonkin Gulf inter-regional cooperation area, a bridge between ASEAN – China, Nanning – Singapore economic corridor, in the key economic region in the nothern part of Vietnam (Ha Noi – Hai Phong – Quang Ninh).
According to the Resolution, the Management Board of Van Don Economic Zone is as an authority under the Quang Ninh Provincial People’s Committee for 3 year pilot period starting from Apr 21, 2020. Secretary Nguyen Xuan Ky affirmed that the roadmap for the development of Van Don Economic Zone has been carefully prepared by Quang Ninh province, Van Don Economic Zone is believed to be one of the important drivers to target the goal of building Quang Ninh city prior to 2030.
