A ceremony took place in Quang Ninh on October 9 to celebrate the 30th year since Vietnam has attended the International Letter-Writing Competition. The event was also held to grant awards to the winners of the previous edition of the competition and to call for entries to the 47th one.
Launched by the Universal Post Union in 1971, the International Letter Writing Competition UPU is an opportunity for all under 15 year old children around the world to not only express their ambitions and desires for the future but also encourages them to raise their typical ideas and present them in the most persuasive ways.
Vietnam became a UPU official member in 1976 and submitted its first entries to the competition in 1987. Over 30 years, there has been 13 pupils gaining internationall awards.
On this occasion, the Organization Board granted merit and reward to a 14 year old girld, Nguyen Do Huyen Vi, who won the first National prize and the International consolation prize in the 46th edition competition. Merits were also granted to the excellent organizations and individuals who had great contributions to the competition over the years.
