On April 12, in Ha Long City, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized the APEC Workshop on advancing inclusion through enhancing women and girls’ digital literacy and skills in the context of the industrial revolution 4.0.
With the participation of over 120 delegates from APEC economies, APEC’s Secreteriats, some of the international organizations in Ha Noi city and leaders of Quang Ninh province, the workshop is an initiative proposed by Vietnam to continue conducting the important issues of the 2017 APEC year, especially the inclusive development and human resource development in the digital era and of 2019 APEC year’s priorities on women as well as the growth embracing the digital society.
Speaking at the workshop, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council Trinh Thi Minh Thanh emphasized that Quang Ninh always pays attention to the gender equality, for the advancement of women. As reported, the number of the major female leaders at all levels is nearly 58%; Every year, the number of women who have been offered with jobs is estimated at 49% and the amount of female workers in the rural areas joining the vocational training classes accounts for 49.4%. In addition, Quang Ninh province puts high priority on taking care of mothers and girls.
However, opportunities and challenges raised in the industry revolution 4.0 also requires Quang Ninh to undertake more specific actions targetting at women and girls in order to promote the gender equality, and for the advancement of the women.
The workshop will be an important contribution to improving the role of women in the digital age, creating motivations to promote sustainable and creative growth. It is expected to creat a favorable environment for women so that their talents could be effcectively promoted. Through the consultations and experiences shared by experts at the workshop, Quang Ninh hopes to approach to initiatives in the application of the industry 4.0 in general and promote the development through training digital skills for women and girls in particular.
There were 3 dialogue sessions at the conference with the topic of industrial revolution 4.0, including opportunities and challenges for women and girls; strengthening APEC's efforts, a comprehensive approach and actions to draw inclusive participation of women and girls in the digital age; APEC vision after 2020 - policy recommendations to promote the women and girls’ participation in the digital age.
Previously, on April 11, there was a dialogue between APEC economies, representatives of international organizations, the central agencies, departments, and enterprises of Quang Ninh province had been held to discuss about digital skill training for women and girls in the context of industrial revolution 4.0.
